Position Title:  Grants & Communications Specialist (part-time)

REPORTS TO:   Executive Director

HOURS:                30% FTE - 50% FTE (12-20 hrs/week). Hours/week, weekday(s); flexible schedule.

LOCATION:       Honolulu, Hawaiʻi, with some work-from-home flexibility.  

The Legal Clinic’s mission is to ensure justice for low-income immigrants and migrants in Hawaiʻi through high-quality immigration legal services, education, and advocacy. We are seeking a skilled motivated Grants & Communications Specialist to support our fundraising and outreach efforts. This role will be responsible for researching and writing grant proposals and reports, developing social media and e-newsletter content. As time permits, this specialist will also manage media relations and internal communications channels. The person in this role will work closely with various other staff members involved in advocacy efforts, fundraising, and community outreach.

Key Responsibilities

Grant Writing & Prospecting  65% FTE

  • Research and identify funding opportunities from foundations and government agencies.

  • Working closely with the executive director, write compelling grant proposals and reports that align with the organization’s mission and programs.

  • Co-manage grant calendar and spreadsheets to track deadlines, submissions, awards,acknowledgment and reporting requirements.

  • Collaborate with program and finance staff to gather necessary data and financial information for grant applications and reports.

Communications & Public Relations 25% FTE

  • Develop and disseminate educational messaging, materials, and other resources to inform the public and stakeholders about immigration issues.

  • Collaborate with other team members to develop and manage content and timeline for newsletters, website, and social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.).

  • Assist advocacy committee and staff in developing and amplifying policy positions through various channels (print and digital media, social media, ethnic media, radio/tv, e-newsletters).

  • Monitor and analyze communication channel metrics to strengthen public engagement.

  • Coordinate internal communications to ensure consistency and staff access.

Organizational Support 10% FTE

  • Help write standard operating procedures for the position as needed.

  • Manage future interns or volunteers related aspects of the work.

  • Participate in staff meetings, retreats, conferences, trainings, benefit events, and other meetings (by phone, video conferencing, and/or in person).  

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher

  • Current resident of Hawaiʻi

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills (clear messaging, verbal, and written), with demonstrated love for writing

  • Prior experience with grant proposal writing, persuasive writing, and ability to generate action through writing preferred

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint) and online research

  • Strong organiziational, time management,  and planning skills, with attention to detail and adherence to deadlines

  • Experience with social media content development

Compensation: $28-$31/hour depending on experience.  Flexible schedule, hybrid work from home option, and professional development opportunities. Benefits are pro-rated based on FTE percentage. At or over 50% time, employees are eligible for pro-rated premium coverage of health/vision/dental insurance (50% of premium paid if at 50% time), and pro-rated 401(k) benefits after 90 days, and pro-rated paid time off and paid holidays.
